Roughly a year ago I received the first release from the US label Iīve Come For Your Children: a full length record from Japanīs Gauge Means Nothing. A band that played classical mid 90ies emo in the Indian Summer, Ivich kind of way and completely blew me away. Since then Iīve eagerly awaited the next output from Iīve Come For Your Children, a label that is focussing on releasing unknown Japanese bands to the ears of the world. After I checked out the labelīs site on a regular base I found out that theyīve released another band called Dip Leg in January of 2005. And finding Dip Legīs record The Sympathy Without Love in my parcel for March drew an instant smile on my face. Cause believe me, Ryan Lewis of Iīve Come For Your Children once again did the emo job right.
Just like Gauge Means Nothing, Dip Leg are also from Japan and they also play mid 90ies emo hardcore. When I use the word Emo here, I am not talking about watered down indie rock but about the way this style of music is meant to be: Honest, emotional, desperate, harsh, aggressive and foremost heart felt music. Therefore Dip Leg use chaotic parts (quite a lot), quiet passages (some) and loud, anthemic walls of sound, equipped with clearly sung or screaming, pained vocals. Basically everything you need to have to make a good, intense emo record. The lyrics of the 8 songs are in Japanese, with the English translation printed within the nicely done booklet.
A really good release, which both, fans of the mid 90ies emo wave (Indian Summer, Current, Honeywell,…) and guys digging the more chaotic approach of the past years (Hot Cross, Envy, …) need to check out. Dip Leg are a really good band, that deserves to be heard. The second hit on Iīve Come For Your Children, letīs see what this record has in store for us in the future. (i've come for you children)
